My name is Emily. I'm glad you're here. I started this blog to encourage my transition to eating healthier - more fruit, vegetables, and whole foods. I'm a work in progress, but I believe in Michael Pollan's recommendation to "eat real food, not too much, and mostly plants." With that in mind I'll try to feature healthy recipes that are delicious and easy to make. Sometimes, I'll have a decadent recipe for you, but I'll always look for ways to make it a little healthier and less processed.
Why start a blog?
The Internet is a wonderful place, but it can also be a negative space. I love reading news and sometimes I find myself in a downward spiral of hopelessness for the world (um yes, very sensitive soul here). I find real joy in the blogs I follow and I want to be part of that, so this space is first a gift to myself and also hopefully one for you as well.
I also feel it's important to focus on kindness. I want to be kind in what I eat (finding cruelty free meat and eggs, or simply eating less meat in general) and in how I live. We start by showing kindness to ourselves and then we can pass it on to others. I hope what you find here is hopeful, environmentally kind and healthy. I hope it makes a difference in your life and adds positivity to your day.
People Who Inspire Me
I love reading recipes and other food blogs. I love books. I adore movies. I will laugh at almost any internet meme. I am incredibly inspired by food bloggers and several professional chefs, I'd wholeheartedly recommend checking out: Yotam Ottolenghi. The Forest Feast. Oh She Glows. Deliciously Ella. Jaime Oliver. This Rawsome Vegan Life. Half Baked Harvest. Mark Bittman. Foodie Crush. Half Baked Harvest. Pinch of Yum. Gimme Some Oven. B Britnell. My Name is Yeh. My New Roots. Dolly and Oatmeal. Kale and Caramel. Green Kitchen Stories. The Roasted Root.
And can I reserve a special place for this one? Five years ago, when I wanted to impress people at dinner parties I started with the pizza dough and have never looked back. Thanks for inspiring me to cook - Smitten Kitchen.
